The George, Birkbeck Bar is located on the fourth floor in the main Malet Street building. It has a wonderful terrace (with some new furniture due soon) that overlooks Torrington Square.
The bar is for Birkbeck students and staff (and their official guests). Like most other Students' Unions, you can "sign in" guests, but you will be responsible for their behaviour.
The bar is open from 12 noon Monday to Friday, and closes at 11pm. The common room which houses the bar is open from 8am weekdays, and is suitable for quite reading and relaxing.
Bar deals (subject to change without notice - see tariff in the bar):
Mondays: All real ale and bitter £2 a pint
Tuesday and Thursdays: Cocktail nights! £2 or £3 depending on how posh you want!
Fridays: mainline draft and some standard drinks all £1.50 each
Monday-Thursday - buy two large wine and rest of bottle is free!
There are also officers on two J2O's for £2.75 all the time and other general officers.
The bar has a smoking area, which is the northside terrace. Smoking on the southside balcony is prohibited and punters will be required to move if smoking on there. Persistent offenders will be sanctioned.
The bar operates a strict zero tollerance policy towards drunkenness, illicit substances and behaviour that is in contravention of the Safe Space and Dignity at Work and Study Policy.
Occasionally, due to fire regulations, door patrols will limit the numbers entering the bar.
