This society needs leadership! Would you like to gain valuable experience and get involved in running a student group? Share your passion with others, and get in contact with our Student Activities Coordinator to learn more...

  • We are the Cricket Club, one of the oldest clubs in Birkbeck Students' Union and a proud part of Team Birkbeck!

  • We play recreational and competitive Cricket.
  • We are looking to begin competitive play again in the London Universities Sports Leagues (LUSL).
  • COVID-19 has currently made play very difficult due to rulings around social interaction, but we are looking to return to play as soon as possible.

  • Our recreational sessions usually run midweek, however current plans are on hold.
  • Any competitive play will be held on regular weekends in the Spring time
  • Any competitive play in the LUSL structures will commence in January 2021 due to the competition organisations revised plans.

  • Join the group! The best way to have the most up to date information on how to get involved, and when we can return to play, is to join as a member. It is currently free, so there is no risk!

About The Club

Birkbeck CricketEstablished in 1832, the club was in existence a good 16 years before the birth of the sport’s first truly great player, W.G. Grace in 1848 and some 50 years before the first Ashes contest between England and Australia in 1882. Indeed, in 1832 underarm bowling was still the formal method of bowling, until its replacement by round-arm bowling in 1835 and finally overarm bowling in 1864. Today, the Cricket Club is the largest sports club at Birkbeck. The club has around 20 members in the core squad, training on a regular basis. The club has a further 100 members who keep track of the progress of the 1st XI and who are invited to take part in some of the social and beginners events held throughout the course of the academic year. In recent years, the club has enjoyed some success with the 1st XI finishing last season as runners up in the London Division II Cup (2013/14 season).

Birkbeck Students' Union groups are only open to full membership for enrolled Birkbeck students. Other membership categories may exist depending on the group's constitution and the approval of the SU's Executive Committee.
