More about giving blood
A blood donation is taken from your arm.
The appointment takes around an hour in total, including 10 to 15 minutes to donate, plus time to have a drink and a snack.
Giving plasma
You can give plasma (part of your blood that can make life-saving medicines) at 3 donation venues in England:
- Birmingham
- Reading
- Twickenham
More about giving plasma
A plasma donation is taken from your arm. A machine separates your plasma from your blood cells and returns your blood cells to your arm.
Your first appointment takes up to 90 minutes because we need to complete extra checks before your first donation.
After this, regular appointments take around 60 minutes with the donation itself lasting around 35-45 minutes.
Note that you can't donate blood and plasma at the same appointment.
