The Students' Union is an independent organisation within Birkbeck College. Through our democratic practices and campaigns, we represent the student voice to the College as a critical friend and change maker. This means that we will speak up for students and lobby the College to make changes on your behalf, that will have a positive impact on your time here. We are led by students, for students. Supported by a team of student & non-student staff, student trustees, and elected student reps and council members, we seek to provide opportunities, guidance and generally enhance your student experience while you study Birkbeck.
We are a registered charity, and any money we make during the year goes back into the student experience. This can be in a number of ways, from funding campaigns or societies, to creating more paid positions for students (like Student Reps!)
We are a democratic organisation that puts students at the head of our governance structures.
As students at Birkbeck, you are automatically members of the Students' Union - and it's free! This means you are able to access all of our services, from Clubs, Societies & Networks and events & activities, our free and impartial Advice Service, and all of our democratic functions including elections, Student Council and Course Reps & School Reps. We are here to stand up for students and support you during your studies. As members of the Union, you can contact us anytime to ask for help.
You can opt out of membership of the Students' Union anytime, however this will mean you no longer have access to our services. You can opt out by updating your preferences on My Birkbeck, your Students' Union account or emailing email@example.com
Birkbeck Students' Union has just reached the end of our 3-year strategy, Getting out of Neutral. We began planning our new strategy last year, but this was halted due to the coronavirus outbreak. Instead, we put together a 6-month strategy aimed at supporting students during the pandemic, and getting our services ready for the virtual term.
The 6-month strategy (and the incoming 3-year strategy) focus on the following key themes: Employability, Academic Interests, Social Experience, Wellbeing and Representing Students. If you would like to find out more or provide us with any feedback, get in touch!
Keep up to date with Birkbeck Students' Union activities, events and news through our website, and follow us on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram to stay connected to the Birkbeck Community. You can find out more about us on our Students’ Union Moodle page. We send fortnightly Students’ Union Updates straight to your inbox to help you stay informed of exciting events, news and the amazing work of the Officer Team, campaigns and student groups, and provide you with lots of ways to get involved with the student community at Birkbeck. To update your email preferences, or your account details, log in to the Students’ Union website.
You can always contact the Students’ Union by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
