All of our Networks will be recruiting a Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary for each network.

Networks are designed to bring students together with their communities to create long-lasting friendships, experiences, and improve Birkbeck. These roles will start in July 2024.
 

Chair Description

The chair will lead the network in event planning and creating change as well as representing the interests of students in their respective communities. 

A chair of a network may have different responsibilities depending on the type and purpose of the network, but some common tasks are:

  • Coordinating and facilitating regular meetings.
  • Liaising and collaborating with the university administration, faculty, staff and external stakeholders on matters related to student welfare, academic quality, diversity and inclusion, and social responsibility
  • Organizing and coordinating the Network activities, such as workshops, seminars, campaigns and social events.
  • Working with the Treasurer and Secretary to ensure smooth running of the network.
  • Ensuring the compliance of the union policies, procedures and regulations.

Secretary Description

The Secretary is responsible for managing the communication and administration of the network. The main duties include:

  • Preparing and distributing agendas and minutes.
  • Maintaining and updating the union website, social media accounts and online platforms.
  • Liaising with the union members, staff, external partners and stakeholders on behalf of the union.
  • Organizing and coordinating the Network activities, such as workshops, seminars, campaigns and social events.
  • Ensuring the compliance of the union policies, procedures and regulations.

Treasurer Description

The treasurer is responsible for managing the finances, preparing budgets and overseeing expenditures of events. Main duties include:

  • Managing any funding applications.
  • Overseeing expenditure and ensuring the budget is kept to.
  • Working with the Chair and Secretary to ensure smooth running of the network.
  • Organizing and coordinating the Network activities, such as workshops, seminars, campaigns and social events.
  • Ensuring the compliance of the union policies, procedures and regulations
