1. Starting at the Top!

These 4 roles will be guiding the Union and University on how to better support students, you will sit in the top meetings (might even run some of them!), where you will share student experience with staff to ensure that decisions that are made at the top of the university are those that will benefit Birkbeck Students. These roles are like being a CEO straight away and all you need is to bring your student experience to sit at the table.

2.  Gain experience that employers are looking for

A lot of potential employers will be impressed if you have trustee or governor experience* All these roles will automatically become trustees of the union in you will sit on the Board of Trustees where major decisions are made for the Union.

The two out of the 4 elected students with the most votes overall will become governors at the University. This means if you campaign hard, you will get to sit at the top university meeting with the vice-chancellor, and you will get first-hand experience in passing policy and making major decisions at the University.

3. New Skills

You only need two things to run to be an elected sabbatical officer, be a current Birkbeck Student, and have a passion for creating change. For all the other skills you need, the SU team will train you and support you the whole way once elected. We will give you skills in, public speaking, chairing meetings, running events, safeguarding, and loads more!

4. Prepare to be empowered!

These roles will give you the power to create change, you will gain confidence and before you know it you will be doing things you never thought possible.

5. Networking

Not only will you work directly with SU staff and the Vice-Chancellor of Birkbeck (The big boss of the University) but will meet many top members of staff and Alumni in different industries to help you build a network that can support and give you advice.

6. A job like no other

These roles are very unique, you will not find another job like this! While these roles are jobs and will be treated as such, you will have a lot of fun and support along the way. You will be having coffee with the vice-chancellor in the morning, running student Parliament in the afternoon, and at night will be attending the SU pub quiz! These jobs have got it all.

7. Learn more about yourself

Are you ready to learn about skills you never knew you had? The SU will be able to help you shine and support you in your passions.

8. Paid Role

All sabbatical officer roles are paid London Living wage!

9. Become part of a new family

The SU is a very supportive and welcoming place to work, the SU staff work very closely with officers and even have some fun staff days!
