Here are 10 things students should know about the Birkbeck Students' Union: 

 

1. The Students’ Union is great place to find out information such as event, programmes within campus and university.  

2. The Students' Union has expanded its support for student wellbeing by signposting relevant services and providing assistance with issues such as housing, immigration matters, and access to essential resources, including the Food and Stationery Pantry. 

3. The Students’ Union offers independent, confidential advice on academic issues, complaints, appeals, and general concerns affecting your studies. 

4. The Students’ Union works with university staff and leadership to improve policies, teaching, and the overall student experience. This includes attending meetings, sharing student feedback, and helping shape decisions on courses, support services, and key policies. 

5. The Students’ Union acts as a bridge between students and the university, ensuring student voices are heard. 

6. Democracy is at the heart of the Students’ Union, do not be afraid to challenge things affecting students. You can also be a part of the Students’ Union by nominating yourself as the course rep. If there's no student repping your course, put yourself forward.  

7. Change might seem impossible, but it is possible and its okay to be different within the Students’ Union.  

8. Attainment gap is important for all students at Birbeck and the Students’ Union are working towards this change. 

9. The SU keeps students informed and connected by sharing clear updates on university decisions, events, opportunities, and support services. It also promotes campaigns, gathers feedback through surveys, and signposts important deadlines and resources. 

10. The SU supports clubs and societies by providing funding, training, and resources to help students run activities and build communities around shared interests. It also organises events, socials, and campaigns that bring students together and encourage engagement.
